Breaking News: Dog Bites Man, Blacks Support Obama

GENEVA, NY–Given the historical nature of Democrat Barack Obama’s candidacy as the first Black major party nominee for president, it’s hardly surprising that, nationwide, he enjoys overwhelming support from other African-Americans. But is it really front page news when ten African-Americans  in a single city claim to support him?

Staff writer Craig Fox and his editors at the Finger Lakes Times seem to think so.

In Sunday’s (October 26) front-page article, “Obama gets local black support, some believe senator will bring Americans closer,” Fox interviews ten African-Americans who support the Democrat nominee.  He also lets each of the people interviewed explain, unchallenged, why they support Obama, why some McCain supporters are “racist” and how American “racism” might stand in the way of the Democrat taking office.

In contrast, a similar article the next day (October 27), by a different Times reporter, on why “many” local veterans are supporting Republican John McCain, included comments from an Obama backer.

According to the City of Geneva’s official website, over twelve percent of the city’s 13,617 residents are African-American, meaning that  there are approxately 1600 blacks residing there.  Therefore, it is strange that Fox did not find a single African American to interview that might have supported McCain or even expressed serious reservations about Obama.  It is also questionable why he chose to interview only ten people, and represent them as a representative majority of the city’s African-American population.

Also, in the print edition of the Sunday paper, the editors endorsed Obama for President, citing among other reasons, his liberal voting record.

There are Black Americans who vote overwhelmingly for ANY Democrat no matter what his race. There is absolutely no significance in the same 90% of Black American voters who also turned out in the same numbers for Gore and every other Democrat candidate.
The real news is the growing number of Black American voters who are leaving the Democrat plantation and voting on the issues.
